Our AST instructors have advanced technical expertise and continuously update their knowledge to provide the most current skills and advice for safe backcountry travel. To support progressive skill development, we offer a range of courses at different levels. We recommend beginning with the Introduction to Backcountry Touring, where participants learn proper equipment use and gain confidence traveling in unmanaged, off-piste terrain. Avalanche Skills Training Level 1, commonly known as the AST 1 Course, is an entry-level certification for those new to avalanche terrain. The course focuses on hazard recognition and building a solid foundation for safe and informed backcountry decision-making.
